There's no greater honor than photographing the wedding of the daughter of a seasoned wedding photographer, except perhaps photographing his 100 year old father in the same day.
I knew I was dealing with an amazing couple from the start. A neonatal nurse and a helicopter pilot, both officers in the United States Navy. It's one of my great pleasures of this job - getting to know amazing people. But then to witness their love... how lucky am I?! On a perfect day in August at the United States Naval Academy, we could not get enough of the weather, the breeze, the architecture... Kudos to my couple for budgeting the time! We made use of the Superintendent's Garden, Dahlgren Hall, Bancroft Hall, and all the spaces in between. Then it was on to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, a space which did not disappoint. Too many photos to share, more of which will be highlighted on the blog. For now, enjoy some of my favorite picks from Cathy + Fernando's beautiful first day as husband and wife!
It is stated on the outside of St. Mary of Sorrow's Catholic Church in Fairfax Station that not only is it an historic landmark, but that Clara H. Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, nursed the wounded and dying soldiers from the Second Battle of Manassas and the engagement near Chantilly in 1862. And when God is that deeply present, the last thing He (or She) wishes to hear or see is a photographer (no matter how awesome and sweet that photographer may be). That's why Katie and Like reached out to me. Not only had I photographed their friends' wedding, but I had experience working in their church. What's more, Katie and Liko were planning this wedding long distance... from Hawaii where Liko is from. No problem for me, but certainly additional stress for my couple. Reassurance from me that rain or shine (or snow!) everything would be amazing and I would have their bases covered is ultimately my M.O., and what sealed the deal for us all. Take a peek at some of my favorites from Katie + Liko's wedding at St. Mary's, which was followed by an intimate dinner party at Ruth's Chris with close family and friends from across the globe. Aloha!
